There are plenty of sitcoms loved by audiences worldwide, whether it be Friends or The Office. These shows tend to have huge fanbases, and this style has been perfected. But that’s not the case for every single sitcom. There are many that people dislike for various reasons, whether it be a poor concept or forgettable characters. Not every sitcom makes its way into the hearts of audiences.
Harry and the Hendersons
This sitcom was based on the movie and saw a family adopt Harry, a Bigfoot. The show attempted to bring some comedy as Bigfoot got used to life in that family environment, but audiences never bought into it. The show didn’t get good reviews and ended up being one of the weakest sitcoms ever.
Saved by the Bell: The New Class
While many people loved the original series, the same cannot be said for this follow-up. The problem was that the premise didn’t change, leading to repeated storylines. Rather than trying to be unique as a show, it was too similar.
Smart Guy
Smart Guy was about a boy genius who skipped six grades to join high school at the age of 10. That’s where all the challenges and humor came from, but the issue was that the show wasn’t funny enough, and many people struggled to relate to the lead role.
How I Met Your Father
How I Met Your Mother was a massively successful sitcom, and it’s easy to see why continuing in that world would be something people would want to see. Unfortunately, this show failed to capture the magic of the original, with many of the jokes feeling forced and the characters lacking the same chemistry that those who came before it had, which is why this one didn’t last.
George
George Foreman has enjoyed success in most things he’s tried his hand at, but having his own sitcom wasn’t one of them. He played an ex-boxer running a youth center, but the series wasn’t good. The acting was poor, and it became clear that Foreman wasn’t the right person to be taking on the lead role here.
Splitting Up Together
Sitcoms typically entertain audiences with a somewhat lighthearted energy, so a show based on two characters going through a complicated separation would always be tricky to navigate. Jenna Fischer takes on the lead role here, but despite her previous success in sitcoms, this show couldn’t provide the same level of quality.
Work It
The fact that this sitcom only ran for two episodes indicates that it didn’t get over with audiences. The idea of having two men dress like women to get a job was something that many felt insulted by, with the show not being appropriate for the culture of the time.
Kevin Can Wait
Kevin Can Wait was instantly criticized as a rip-off of King Of Queens, and it became apparent that the show would never hold up to that same level of quality. The series might have boasted Kevin James in the lead role, which is usually a recipe for comedic success, but this one fell short of the mark.
The Inbetweeners
This is a beloved British sitcom that perfectly tapped into British humor. It led to several successful seasons and two movies, which is why a U.S. remake occurred. That version of the show struggled massively, mainly because it didn’t adapt enough for American audiences, which led to many of the jokes not having the same impact.
Baby Bob
Focusing an entire sitcom on a talking baby would always be risky, and it didn’t quite work here. The problem was that the series simply wasn’t funny enough, as the character couldn’t be developed or built around in the same way most sitcom leads are.
Dog With A Blog
Sitcoms can often get away with a rather over-the-top premise, but a show focused on a talking dog that runs his own blog was a step too far for many. This series is too cheesy for most people, and even though Disney was aiming this at a teenage audience, it still ended up being highly disliked due to its poor quality.
My Mother the Car
This show focused on David Crabtree, who bought a car that ended up being the reincarnation of his mother. It is a strange concept, as he spends his time attempting to protect the vehicle throughout the show, which people simply can’t take seriously.
Fred: The Show
Fred: The Show is an example of why not everything can translate from the online world into television. While this was a hit on YouTube, the success faded away once Nickelodeon attempted to make it a television show. The series had negative reviews, mainly because it wasn’t funny.
We Are Men
This show was canceled after just two episodes, even though 11 had been produced for it. This is because the series wasn’t entertaining or funny, which is ultimately the core focus of any sitcom. The idea is that someone left at the altar ends up making friends with a group of divorced men, but the focus being so male-centric instantly alienated a large portion of people, and the show never recovered.
The Odd Couple
Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon are talented actors who know how to make things funny, but they both fell short of the mark with The Odd Couple. The series wasn’t funny enough to last, so it didn’t stick around too long or become particularly well-known amongst television audiences.
Ferris Bueller
This television show was based on the popular movie starring Matthew Broderick, but it was nowhere near as entertaining or enjoyable. The plot lent itself perfectly to creating a hilarious sitcom in which Ferris Bueller could’ve caused mischief in each episode, but it wasn’t critically liked, and the show never managed to catch on.
2 Broke Girls
2 Broke Girls might’ve run for several years, but many people intensely disliked this series. The main reason for that was that the content of the jokes was often offensive. There were racist stereotypes littered throughout this series that many found inappropriate, which is why this show hasn’t aged well in the slightest.
Joey
Friends might be among the most popular sitcoms, but the Joey spin-off didn’t follow suit. Joey was brilliant as a character, but there were apparent flaws when positioned in the lead role. Audiences didn’t want to see him without the classic Friends characters, and the new additions for this show were simply not as engaging. It disappointed many who wanted to like it, but the show wasn’t good enough, so it was canceled.
