Certain films are expected to be loved. These films have a massive fan base and may have been famous for years. The pressure to love certain films can be so strong that we can even feel a little embarrassed to admit that we haven’t seen them or don’t like them.
Here are 21 films that you are supposed to love but probably don’t.
The Moulin Rouge

Starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, this movie gets lots of hype, but unless you are into fantasy-style musicals and the Can Can, you probably aren’t going to “feel the vibe.”
Aquaman

Starring Jason Momoa, we are supposed to love this movie, but some of us just don’t. As great an actor as Momoa is, the storyline in this film has been criticized for being weak and aimless.
Kill Bill

Everything about this film tells us that we should love it. It was Directed by Quentin Tarantino, it has lots of epic martial arts scenes, and Uma Thurman plays the lead role. But even though lots of people talk about how brilliant this movie is, if you are not into modern, Western, gangster-style films, you will probably not like this movie. I’m just saying.
Taken

Starring Liam Neeson, who plays a father who will stop at nothing to find and rescue his daughter. This movie is famous for the line “I will find you, and I will kill you.” as loved as this film is, some viewers said that it felt like they were watching James Bond 2.0.
The Sound of Music

Made in 1965, most of us have heard about how brilliant this film is. And maybe you believed the hype, that is, until you watched it yourself. The truth is that if musicals are not your thing, you will probably not like this movie, and we will not shame you for not wanting to sing “The Hills Are Alive.”
Mission Impossible

Starring Tom Cruise, the Mission Impossible franchise has seven installments, with number eight expected to drop in 2025. If you’ve ever told someone that you don’t like the Mission Impossible movies, they might’ve asked, “Oh, really, which one?” to which you might have replied, “All of them”.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Based on tales of Greek Mythology and underwater worlds, this fantasy film features lots of magic and action. But Greek Gods and sea monsters aren’t for everyone, so if you’re not a fan, we get it.
The Life of Pi

Nominated for eleven Academy Awards, The Life of Pi took home four, so this film has some credentials. We should love this movie because it is acclaimed for its intellectual depth and philosophical deep meaning. But, many people found it too deep and, honestly, confusing.
Avengers: Endgame

When this Marvel movie was released, cinemas worldwide were booked to satisfy the sheer scale of its demand. If you are a true Marvel fan, this film was a moment in fandom history, but if you’re not, then you probably couldn’t see all the hype.
Jurassic Park

There have been six Jurassic Park movies, with the first film heralded as the best. You either love or hate the Jurassic Park movie series, and if you don’t like giant dinosaurs, mud, and hours of action-packed prehistoric adventure, you won’t be a fan of these films.
Alien

Directed by Ridley Scott in 1979, this film is hailed as a groundbreaking moment in cinematic history. The storyline, the special effects, and Sigourney Weaver have all been praised for contributing to an epic movie. But, if you aren’t into sci-fi films, you might disagree.
Saturday Night Fever

Everything about this film was a hit: John Travolta, his signature dance moves, and the Bee Gees song “Stayin’ Alive.” But, sometimes, we can hear such great reviews about a film that watching it can be somewhat of an anti-climax, so don’t worry if this movie didn’t make you feel like you wanted to dance.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Starring Clint Eastwood, the pressure to love this film is strong. After all, it is hailed as one of the best Western movies ever made. But despite how great Clint Eastwood is and even how cool the music is, Western movies are a bit niche, so it’s okay if you don’t enjoy them.
The Blair Witch Project

The hype around this movie, whenever it came out, was massive, and people praised the fact that it was filmed only using two cameras by some amateur filmmakers. The movie became one of the most successful independent films ever made. But, despite critical acclaim, some of us did feel like this was a movie made in a forest, with two cameras, by amateur filmmakers
Gremlins

This film was a massive hit in the 80s, and there was even a Gremlins 2, and, would you believe it, Gremlins 3 is due out for release within months. The first two movies were so successful that Steven Spielberg agreed to step back into directing the third installment of this fantasy horror, which we can expect to see released before the end of 2024. But we fully understand if you do not love Gremlins, and it’s okay to admit we get it if you’re more of a Gizmo type of person.
The Godfather

Acclaimed as one of the greatest movies ever made, we get that it can be hard to admit that you did not like this film. Especially as it has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 9.2 rating on IMDB, more than 40 years after it was made. But the fact is that hard-core gangster movies are not for everyone.
Grease

This musical comedy, made in 1978, is one of the most notorious movies ever. It starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who were immortalized by their roles as Sandy and Danny. But not everyone loves Grease’s comedic, cheesy musical style, and that’s okay.
John Wick

Starring Keanu Reeves as a legendary assassin, the John Wick movies have a massive fan following, so you might likely offend some people if you admit you’re not a fan. But never say never; with the last installment of the franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4, only released in 2023, there’s still hope that you might be converted.
Prometheus

Directed by Ridley Scott and rated 7.7 on IMDB, this film has a lot of things in its favor. Unless that is, you are simply not a fan of adventure or sci-fi movies, then this film is unlikely to impress you.
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes fans loved this film, and with brilliant actors in the leading roles like Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, we can see the appeal. But Sherlock Holmes is not the type of movie for everyone, and if two detectives roaming around Victorian London solving mysteries is not your thing, we get it.
Edward Scissor Hands

It was hailed as an iconic movie of the ’90s. Not everyone is a fan of this film; some call it creepy and cheesy, but perhaps that’s the movie’s point. Based on a man who has scissors for hands, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder both gave epic performances in this film.
