18 Gut-Busting Films for a Night Full of Laughter

Hollywood has churned out many funny movies, but there is a difference between a funny movie and a hilarious work of comedic genius that will have you laughing out loud. Here’s a list of 20 of the funniest movies ever made.

Yes Man

Starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel, this film ticks all the right boxes for a good laugh. If it’s not Carrey’s contorted facial expressions that make you giggle, it might be  that he thinks he has been put under a spell that means he must say “Yes!” to everything, even a date with an old lady.

The Wedding Singer

This movie, set in the 1980s, features Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore giving one of the funniest performances of their lives. If Sandler’s dry wit and sarcastic humor don’t make you laugh out loud, maybe his 1980s poodle hairstyle will.

The Cable Guy

Starring Jim Carrey as a lonely, creepy cable guy who tries to buy friends with free cable, this movie features some hilarious scenes with comedic timing that only Carrey himself can deliver.

Father of the Bride

Cue the legend that is Steve Martin and Martin Short. This film will have you rolling around the floor in hysterical fits of laughter. This comedy duo has excellent chemistry on screen, and if Franck Eggelhoffer, the wedding planner’s foreign accent, doesn’t make you laugh, I’m not sure what will.

The Mask

Jim Carrey strikes again, this time with an egotistical, narcissistic green face in the legendary movie The Mask. This film is famous for launching Cameron Diaz’s career and also for making people roll around with laughter.

Made in 1989, The ‘Burbs is still making us laugh. Starring Tom Hanks as a stressed-out suburban jobsworth who thinks that his new neighbors are part of a Satanic cult; movies don’t get much funnier than this.

The Three Amigos

Starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, this movie is a triple whammy of hilarity. We see three of the greatest comedy geniuses of all time come together in this comedy Western as they try to “defend” a Mexican town.

The Hangover

The Hangover is the first installment of The Hangover Trilogy and arguably the funniest of all three movies. It stars Bradley Cooper as part of a stag party that wakes up in Las Vegas with everything except their groom, including a tiger.

Dr. Doolittle

Although rated PG, this film isn’t just funny for kids. Eddie Murphy’s humor can transcend all age ranges, and it’s hard not to laugh at Dr. Doolittle while he’s having full-scale conversations with a hamster.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Starring Will Ferrell as hot shop news anchorman Ron Burgundy, this movie is 20 laughs a minute. Set in the 1970s, we see Ron welcome the new upstart reporter Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), but in a very inappropriate, hilarious 1970s style. After Veronica is too good at her job, Ron starts a feud with her.

Austin Powers

You can’t get a much funnier movie than Austin Powers, the international man of mystery. Mike Myers plays a frisky spy from the 1960s and plays multiple hilarious roles in this parody-style comedy.

Starring Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon as two ex-groupies who are now adults, attempting to “adult” in the real world. While one of them has managed to start a new,” respectable life” as Lavinia (Susan Saradon), Suzette (Goldie Hawn) has not. Hilarity ensues as The Banger Sisters take us on the journey of rediscovering their not-so-respectable, misspent youth.

Trading Places

Vince Vaughn brought us so much laughter with the film Dodgeball, which sees him and a team of societal outcasts work together to beat their ultimate nemesis, bad guy White Goodman (Ben Stiller). Cue lots of laughs and scenes that will have your sides splitting.

The Big Lebowski

Starring Jeff Bridges as Jeff “The Dude,” who is mistaken for a millionaire with the same name, this film takes audiences on a wild but funny ride as we follow the escapades of Jeff and his crew as they attempt to recover his ruined rug.
